The Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy, a self-governing graduate school at Tufts University in Boston, seeks a faculty member to join the Department of Food and Nutrition Policy. The department provides a multidisciplinary curriculum covering nutrition science, statistics, economics, food and agriculture policy, as well as nutrition interventions. Students in our Masters and Ph.D. programs acquire the skills and knowledge needed to make an impact on food systems and nutrition around the world.

We seek an individual with appropriate experience in research, teaching, and student mentoring. We are particularly interested in candidates able to continue the School’s high level of dialogue with national government stakeholders, as well as with scientists, globally. The candidate should have rigorous research experience, a background in nutrition sciences (clinical or applied), and knowledge of the policy processes and practices influencing nutrition outcomes in developing countries.

Working with the Deans and Department Chair, the candidate will develop a research and teaching agenda, represent the Friedman School, and provide high level expertise at national or international meetings. Responsibilities will include:

  • Develop an active, independent portfolio of externally-funded research, and collaborate with colleagues in team-based bids for research support.
  • Contribute to teaching at the School (2 to 3 graduate courses annually, depending on needs at the school, demands of externally funded research portfolio, and other activities defined by the Dean).
  • Advise graduate students, including directing independent studies and assisting with internship and job placements.
  • Supervise doctoral dissertations as appropriate.
  • Serve on school committees and engage in collegial cross-university activities.

 Qualifications Sought:

  • Doctoral degree relevant to food and nutrition policy.
  • A strong record of independent research and publications.
  • University teaching experience, ideally at graduate level.
  • Engagement in public policy related to food, agriculture, environmental issues, and/or nutrition.
  •  Successful grant proposal writing experience
